Who needs a headshot? by Jonathan Sword

Actors? Company Directors? Bloggers?

My answer would be.. YOU!

Your online presence is a huge part of business and personal life in this extremely fast moving world. Just think how quickly you scroll through social media feeds on your phone. You get milliseconds to catch the attention of a potential agent, customer, new employer or even a new partner. So why let a dodgy profile picture be the thing that makes them keep scrolling or swiping?

You may think that your selfie at the bar, club or in your bathroom is "good enough" but is it really giving the right impression? It may be fun, your perfect angle or show off your new hairstyle but is it going to get you that role, job or even interview?

Professional headshots don't have to be stuffy and can bring out your true personality if done correctly. The classic studio headshot is an amazing way to get the professional, eye catching .. enough to stop and look at your profile shot. And just because it's in a studio doesn't make it boring!

The second choice is a location headshot/portrait that can be shot at your business or outdoors. The images taken at your workplace can really be a great addition to your website or brilliant for a banner etc.

So to answer the question again, you need a headshot!

Why not drop me a message to see what I can do for you?

Everyone has a first time.....(Jo and Chris Wedding) by Jonathan Sword

Thursday 22nd of September 2016... a day I had both been looking forward to, but was also very nervous about (the sleepless night prior backed this up!).

It was my first ever "full wedding", now I've shot a few evening receptions before, but never the BIG part of the day. As mentioned above I had mixed emotions about the day, the nerves were with me until the first press of the shutter button.. and well then muscle memory kicked in and I realised I'd taken 1000's of portrait photographs, and when it all came down to it Jo and Chris were no different to any other humans I'd photographed (well perhaps the kilt and beautiful wedding dress).

I'd like to thank Jo and Chris for having the faith in me to shoot their wedding. Are there things I'd do differently if shooting it again?.. YES! but far more I'd do the exact same. I am truly glad I waited a few years before shooting a wedding, doing it any sooner than this year wouldn't have produced the same results.. and things will only get better, maybe not easier but like with everything in life, the more you do something, the better you get.

Congratulations Jo and Chris!

Trainspotting chic! by Jonathan Sword

Lukas got in contact with me via his modelling agency looking for some "heroin chic"  images around Glasgow. Now unfortunately the location I had wanted to use was already in use by some "locals".  Plan B was down under The Arches.. Arches! Now luckily for me there is still an arch which is used daily by the railway networks team.. And it comes with it's own blue UV lights to stop any unwanted needle action. Hats off to Lukas for getting in about the mess and showing off his cheekbones to the world!

A bloggers, blog..blog?! by Jonathan Sword

A sunny summers day in Glasgow? Surely not! Well that's what John and I got last week ( The Everyday Man www.theeverydayman.co.uk )

This is the second time working with John, he was looking for some shots to add into his blog. He'd picked the People's Palace at Glasgow Green and also the ever charming  Barras for some the shots. It was a mixed bag of suits, sportswear and bags!

Head over to John's blog for some great lifestyle articles.

Super Saturday by Jonathan Sword

Trawling through Gumtree for random items and I then stumbled  across and ad for studio space, bare bones, no lighting provided etc but it looks amazing. I decide to book it for a day and then I got some bookings in for portraits and headshots. It was a great space and the results I got from the shoots weren't bad either.

First up was Rosalind -  signed with Superior Model Management and also in the last 13 of Miss Scotland! Natural light, cool colours and soft black and whites were the call for this shoot.

Next up were some actress headshots in the more modern cinematic feel.  Danielle hadn't had any headshots before so it was a fun shoot.

3rd and fina shoot of the day was with Kirstie, the brief was 90's Calvin Klein-esque with a modern twist.  I also used Kirstie as a guinea-pig for some gelled lighting shots.. Thanks for being a trooper.

KARTEL Scotland w/Robert Moses - Glasgow by Jonathan Sword

This week had me in Glasgow's lovely Woodlands/Park Circus area shooting a fashion editorial for KARTEL Watches,  an up and coming Scottish watchmaker.  The focus was on their lovely Harris Tweed strapped Tarbet watch.

Robert arrived in a modern grey and black suit, we headed towards the famous granite stairs near Kelvingrove and then made our way down the beautiful streets which were adorned with towering house, pillars and marble stairwells.

I opted for a modern feel shoot with some colder processing to match the greys of the watch.⌚https://www.kartel-time.com

(S) portraits.. by Jonathan Sword

Hello,

Sport theme this week as I was at Crossfit Coatbridge to capture some of their members sports portraits (or sportraits as I like to call them).  Now I've covered crossfit photography a few times, but always in the live environment of a workout (WOD) with ambient lighting, wide apertures and pushing the ISO. Today I was doing more staged shots with portable studio strobes and speed lights.  Was a great experience and the guys pulled off stellar moves to allow me get a good range of photos.

Studio time by Jonathan Sword

This week saw me getting to spend some time in the studio with Glasgow based fashion, lifestyle and fitness blogger John Robertson (The Everyday Man). John was looking to showcase some winter costs and looks for his website. With it being a winter feel I wanted to give it a dark moody feel with my black and whites, and an almost cold look to my colours.

Was great getting to work with John, he's got a really interesting job and hope to be able to work with him on some outdoor shoots come the better weather.

Portrait Party by Jonathan Sword

Hi all,

Been a while since I posted in my blog so decided I better start getting up to date. Having taken some time off from portrait photography to focus on getting fitter (and doing some sports photography) I'm back with a (flash) bang. I've been working with some great people over the last two weeks- Kelly and Flick. Kelly was looking for some edgy Street portraits and some more classic beauty shots, while Flick being an actress was looking for some headshots for her portfolio. Both were great to work with and hope to do so again in the future.

Following on from this I've got a shoot with a popular Scottish Fashion Blogger which I can't wait to get clicking on (photos to follow later this week). We'll be going for an Autumnal style editorial look which I'm excited for, getting to capture some great clothes and all of the colours of Autumn trees and leaves.

I'll finish off with a few shots from Kelly and Flick.

My weekend.. by Jonathan Sword

This weekend saw me working my three jobs,a banking analyst and my two favourites.. Photographer and a dad. Saturday evening took me along to the wedding of Rachael and Kenny to captures their wedding reception. A little strange just doing the reception but it's allowed me to capture some great dance moments and hone my strobist skills in a challenging space (small dance floor and low ceiling). Overall it was a success, the band were great, the dance floor was always full and everyone had fun!
